Our Focus
- 15% of Wood Buffalo residents – or 3,000 households – are at risk
of homelessness. - 81% of the homeless population in the Wood Buffalo region stayed
in a homeless shelter in the past 12 months. - 28% of households in Wood Buffalo earn less than the average
cost of living. - The foreclosure rate in our region is 23 times higher since 2015.
Our Objective
Poverty is a far-reaching and complex issue. It is also a lasting one. Once in the cycle of poverty, it is extremely difficult to overcome and it can continue throughout generations without the necessary resources to break the cycle. By investing in programs that provide stability for everyone to realize
a better future and reach their full potential, we can build a stronger community.
We are committed to meeting the basic needs of our community’s most vulnerable people to break the cycle of poverty.
How We Help

We are an active member of the Poverty Reduction Network
Wood Buffalo and the Alberta Poverty Reduction Network.

We sit on the Homelessness Initiatives Strategic Committee (HISC)
to join the fight to combat Homelessness.

We are proud to support proactive programming that provides education to reduce the risk of families from becoming homeless.

Our funding supports a “Rent Smart Program” which outlines the three keys to housing success; As well as a “Financial Literacy Program” that provides newcomers with tools to help them and their families understand the Canadian financial system.

Our funded Outreach programming allows community members assistance with filing income tax returns, resume building, and searching for employment. It provides access to transportation, food security resources, and health care through Alberta Health Services.
