As A Community-Building Organization, United Way Fort McMurray And Wood Buffalo Must Work Hard To Ensure That Our Community Is Truly An Equitable, Safe, And Inclusive Place, Particularly For Indigenous And Racialized Communities.

A Commitment to Reconciliation

United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo is committed to
reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. As a charity serving the
Wood Buffalo region, with a mandate of local impact, we view
reconciliation as an opportunity to honour Indigenous People
Across this land and evaluate our commitment to them.

We Will Do This By:

  • Listening to, consulting with, and learning from Indigenous members
of our community about Indigenous strengths and ways of knowing
    and being.
  • Reflecting on the relationship that we have with Indigenous Peoples.
  • Collaborating with Indigenous communities and organizations whose objectives or work intersect with ours
  • Embracing Indigenous voices, leadership, and participation in all aspects of our organization.

This work is a journey to become an inclusive and equitable organization. We recognize the time and resources it will require to accomplish this goal and know we must listen, learn, and accept the challenges along the way.

United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo is dedicated to this transformation which can only be accomplished with the wisdom, advice, and support of our Indigenous community members. By doing our part to build a more equitable organization and to realize our vision of a community, everyone will have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
