FORT MCMURRAY, AB – United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo announces its 2020 Community Campaign total of $3.5 million.
“I want to thank each and every one of our volunteers, donors, workplaces, and corporate partners who stepped up during this challenging year to ensure our community’s most vulnerable remain supported,” said Jordanna Lambert, Board President. “It’s instances like these that highlight the unmatched generosity of our community.”
This year’s campaign kick-off was the first of it’s kind, commencing with a virtual video launch on September 10th.
“We knew we had a challenging year ahead of us going into this campaign cycle,” said Craig Picton, 2020 Community Campaign Chair.
“It required us to be innovative in our approach and we are thankful for the incredible reception from our community.”
Notable campaign contributions included a record number of restaurant participants in the Red Menu Campaign, overwhelming
community support in the Really Really Really Big 50/50 and Christmas Cash Draw, and unwavering workplace involvement
despite the unprecedented circumstances.
While the campaign produced an excellent result, it did not reach the $4 million target and is down from the $4.65 million raised
in the previous year.
“There are some tough decisions to be made moving forward,” said Andrea Hine, Community Investment Chair. “We are committed
to working diligently with our partner agencies and Community Investment teams to ensure maximum impact in Wood Buffalo
with the funds available.”
